How Your Holiday Pay Is Calculated

Enter your pay and working pattern above to see how your holiday pay is calculated.

Important Information

This calculator provides an estimate based on the information you enter. Holiday pay can depend on your employment contract, the type of leave being taken and the payments that form part of your normal remuneration.

For irregular-hours and part-year workers, different rules may apply. Always check the latest official guidance or seek professional advice where necessary.

How Holiday Pay Is Calculated

Holiday pay is intended to ensure that workers receive the appropriate amount of pay when they take their annual leave. The calculation depends on your working pattern and how your pay is made up.

Regular Hours and Fixed Pay

If you work regular hours and receive a fixed salary or wage, holiday pay is generally based on your normal weekly pay. The calculator uses your annual salary, weekly hours and working days to work out your hourly and daily rates, then calculates the value of the holiday you are taking.

Regular Hours and Variable Pay

If you work regular hours but your pay varies, certain payments may need to be included when calculating holiday pay. Depending on the circumstances, this can include regular overtime and commission.

The calculator uses the qualifying pay you enter and the statutory 52-week reference period to estimate your average weekly and hourly pay.

Irregular-Hours and Part-Year Workers

Different rules apply to eligible irregular-hours and part-year workers. The calculator provides options for both rolled-up holiday pay and an average-pay calculation.

For eligible workers and leave years beginning on or after 1 April 2024, rolled-up holiday pay can be calculated at 12.07% of eligible pay for the relevant pay period.

What You'll Need

Depending on your circumstances, you may need:

  • Your annual salary or relevant pay
  • Your usual weekly working hours
  • Your usual working days
  • The amount of holiday you are taking
  • Regular overtime or commission
  • Relevant pay and hours for an irregular-hours calculation

Important Information

This calculator provides an estimate based on the information you enter. Holiday pay can depend on your employment contract, the type of leave being taken and the payments that form part of your normal remuneration.

Your employer may provide holiday entitlement or holiday pay that is more generous than the statutory minimum. If you're unsure how your holiday pay should be calculated, check your employment contract and the latest official guidance.
